Questions, answered briefly_
Short answers in eight groups. The same answers appear on the pages they relate to.
Getting started
How does Scriber work?
You start a session, confirm the patient agreed to be recorded, and talk as you normally would. Scriber transcribes the conversation and writes a draft note in your template. You review it, change what you need, and mark it complete. Letters, patient summaries and reports can be drafted from the same session.
Do I need a special microphone?
No. The built-in microphone of a laptop, phone or tablet works for most rooms. Place the device between you and the patient. In large or noisy rooms a USB omnidirectional microphone helps. The sign-up wizard includes a microphone check.
Which devices and browsers work? Do I need to install anything?
Scriber runs in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, with nothing to install. There are apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, desktop apps for Mac and Windows, and a Chrome extension that opens Scriber next to web-based practice software.
Does it work for telehealth and phone consultations?
Yes. In the browser you can share the call tab so Scriber hears both sides. The Mac and Windows apps capture the computer’s audio directly, which also works for Zoom, Teams and phone apps. You can also upload a recording after the call.
Which languages does Scriber support?
Tested for transcription and output: English, Polish, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Ukrainian. A note can be written in a different language from the one spoken, and a patient summary can be translated for the patient. Other languages may work but have not been tested.
Which professions is Scriber for?
Clinicians who run one-to-one consultations: allied health (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, dietetics, podiatry, chiropractic, osteopathy), mental health (psychology, counselling, psychiatry), GPs and medical specialists. Each group has starter templates.
Recording & consent
How long can a recording be?
Up to 3 hours per recording. If the consultation continues, add more audio to the same session with Add more details and Scriber updates the draft.
Do I need patient consent?
Yes. Scriber asks you to confirm consent before every recording and stores the answer with the time. If the patient says no, you can still write the note by dictating after the consultation or typing it.
How do I explain Scriber to patients?
Use the script and printable poster on the For patients page. In short: the conversation is recorded to help write the clinical note, the recording is deleted automatically, it is not used to train AI, and the patient can say no without affecting their care.
Notes & accuracy
How accurate are the notes?
Scriber is designed to leave gaps rather than guess. Sections that were not discussed say so, missing facts appear as highlighted placeholders, and it does not add a diagnosis you did not state. Drug names are checked against a medication list. We will publish our evaluation method and results before quoting any accuracy figure.
Do I still need to review the note? Who is responsible for it?
Yes. Every note is a draft until you mark it complete, and you remain responsible for its content, as with any note you sign. Scriber adds a sign-off line that says the note was drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by you.
Can I make the notes look like mine?
Yes. Pick a template or import one from an example note. Set your writing preferences once (headings, abbreviations, tense, length) and Scriber applies them to every note. When you correct a draft you can tell Scriber to remember the change.
Does Scriber make a diagnosis or replace my judgement?
No. Scriber documents what was said. It does not diagnose, recommend treatment or change the clinical content of the conversation. Every clinical decision stays with you.

Integrations & devices
Which practice software does Scriber connect to?
See Integrations & apps for the current list and what each connector does. Where there is no connector, the Chrome extension, copy formats and PDF or Word export cover the gap.
Do I need IT help to set it up?
No. A clinician can sign up and record in a few minutes. Connecting practice software takes an API key from that system and is usually done once by the practice owner.
Privacy & security
Are audio recordings stored?
Yes, for 30 days, so you can replay a passage or redraft the note. After that the recording, transcript and session are deleted automatically. You can delete a session sooner at any time.
Where is my data stored?
In the region you choose when you sign up: EU, UK, Australia, Canada and the US. Recordings, transcripts and notes are stored and processed in that region. The region is shown on your account page.
Is patient data used to train AI?
No. Patient data is not used to train any AI model, ours or our providers’. Our contracts with AI providers forbid storing or training on the data we send them.
Do you sign a DPA or BAA?
Yes, on every plan, including Free. The data processing agreement (GDPR and UK GDPR) and the US business associate agreement are accepted in the app, without emailing anyone. Clinics can request a signed copy.
How long are notes kept, and can I delete them?
Sessions are kept for 30 days and then deleted. Copy or export completed notes to your practice software before then. You can delete a session, or one recording within it, at any time.
Who can see my patients’ information?
Only you, and people in your clinic whose role allows it. Clinic owners decide what practice managers and assistants can see. Pixel staff can access a session only when you ask for support on it.
Plans & billing
Is there a free plan? Do I need a card?
Yes. The Free plan includes 10 sessions a month for as long as you like. New accounts get 14 days of Pro first. No card is needed for either.
What happens when the trial ends?
Your account moves to the Free plan. Nothing is deleted and your templates stay. Upgrade at any time to keep Pro features.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. Monthly plans stop at the end of the month you are in. Yearly plans stop at the end of the year. Your sessions follow the normal 30 days deletion schedule.
What counts as a session?
One patient encounter: everything recorded, uploaded or typed for it, plus the note, letters and summaries made from it. Adding more audio to the same session does not count again.
Do assistants or practice managers need a paid seat?
No. Only clinicians who record or write notes need a paid seat. Practice managers and assistants are free on the Clinic plan.
Do you offer discounts?
Students and graduates in their first year get Solo free with proof of enrolment or registration. Clinics with more than 20 clinicians can ask for a quote.
Are prices shown with VAT?
Prices are in euros and exclude VAT. VAT is added at checkout where it applies.
Clinics & teams
What roles are there in a clinic account?
Owner, Practice manager, Clinician and Assistant. Owners manage billing and security rules. Practice managers manage people and shared templates. Assistants can prepare sessions and finish letters but cannot see notes unless allowed.
