From conversation to completed note_
A Scriber session has seven stages. This page shows what you do at each one, what Scriber does, and what happens to the patient’s data.
Seven stages, one session_
Each stage names the features involved and ends with a note on the data. The panel on the right sums it up for your IT team.
- 1
Before the session
Today’s appointments appear from your practice software. Open one to start a session with the patient’s name and appointment type filled in. If you have seen the patient before, earlier notes can be added as context.

- 2
Consent
Before recording, Scriber asks you to confirm the patient agreed. The answer and the time are saved with the session. If the patient says no, dictate the note afterwards or type it.

- 3
Capture
Record in the room with any device, capture a video call in the browser or in the desktop app, upload a recording, or dictate. Add typed context or a PDF referral. If the consultation continues, add more audio to the same session.

- 4
Draft
Scriber transcribes the conversation, works out who said what, and writes the note in your template and writing style. Sections that were not discussed say so. Facts that were not stated become highlighted placeholders.

Review and refine
Read the draft beside the transcript and play back any passage. Edit directly, or tell Scriber what to change and get a new version. Switch to another template without recording again. Medication names are checked against a medication list.

Finish
Mark the note complete. Copy it in the format your software expects, export to PDF or Word, or send it straight to the patient record. A sign-off line records that the note was drafted with AI and reviewed by you.

After the session
Draft a referral letter or a plain-language patient summary from the same session, on your letterhead. Later, combine up to 10 sessions into a progress or insurance report. Letters wait for your approval.

Built to leave gaps, not to guess_
An AI scribe can mishear or misattribute. These rules make errors visible, so your review catches them.
A section that wasn’t covered says so instead of being filled with typical findings.

[Dose not stated]Scriber records your assessment. It doesn’t add conditions, treatments or advice.

|---|---|---|---|
| Consulting room | Live recording | Laptop, phone or tablet | Put the device between you and the patient, screen up. |
| Gym, ward or large room | Live recording | Phone in your pocket or a USB microphone | An omnidirectional USB microphone picks up both voices. |
| Home visit | Live recording | iPhone or Android app | Recording continues if the screen locks. |
| Video call in the browser | Telehealth: share the call tab | Chrome or Edge | Tick “share tab audio” so Scriber hears the patient. |
| Video or phone call in an app | Telehealth: system audio | Mac or Windows app | Works with Zoom, Teams and softphones. |
| After the patient leaves | Dictation | Any device | Choose clean-up, expand or verbatim mode. |
| Recorded on another device | Upload | Web or desktop | Audio or video files up to 3 hours. |
Speak one language, write in another_
Scriber transcribes the languages below and can write the note, letter or patient summary in any of them. Translations of patient summaries are drafts like everything else.
Tested languages only. Other languages may work but have not been tested. We add a language to this list only after testing transcription and writing in it.
Do I need a special microphone?
No. The built-in microphone of a laptop, phone or tablet works for most rooms. Place the device between you and the patient. In large or noisy rooms a USB omnidirectional microphone helps. The sign-up wizard includes a microphone check.
Does it work for telehealth and phone consultations?
Yes. In the browser you can share the call tab so Scriber hears both sides. The Mac and Windows apps capture the computer’s audio directly, which also works for Zoom, Teams and phone apps. You can also upload a recording after the call.
How long can a recording be?
Up to 3 hours per recording. If the consultation continues, add more audio to the same session with Add more details and Scriber updates the draft.
How accurate are the notes?
Scriber is designed to leave gaps rather than guess. Sections that were not discussed say so, missing facts appear as highlighted placeholders, and it does not add a diagnosis you did not state. Drug names are checked against a medication list. We will publish our evaluation method and results before quoting any accuracy figure.
Do I still need to review the note? Who is responsible for it?
Yes. Every note is a draft until you mark it complete, and you remain responsible for its content, as with any note you sign. Scriber adds a sign-off line that says the note was drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by you.
Does Scriber make a diagnosis or replace my judgement?
No. Scriber documents what was said. It does not diagnose, recommend treatment or change the clinical content of the conversation. Every clinical decision stays with you.
